Palm Avenue Detox

Palm Avenue Detox is a clinically managed 22-bed detoxification (withdrawal management) program serving men, women, trans and non-binary adults experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health disorders in San Mateo County. The average length of stay is typically five days or longer depending on medical necessity.

At Palm Avenue Detox, each client is screened for medical necessity and safety prior to admission, and each client is monitored consistently throughout their stay to ensure that withdrawal symptoms are not posing a medical risk. Therefore, it is routine for our staff members to assess vital signs and other risk factors to ensure one stabilizes safely in the program. Currently, participants who require withdrawal medications or other medical services are promptly linked to our medical provider partners throughout the County. Currently, we are working with our state licensing authorities to add healthcare practitioners and prescribers in-house!

Palm Avenue Detox is staffed by registered/certified SUD counselors, case managers, licensed vocational nurses and other support staff. Palm Avenue is not a medical detoxification program, as it does not employ doctors on site 24/7. However, the program operates under the direction of a licensed physician to ensure the utmost safety and comfort during the potentially difficult period of substance withdrawal. The dedicated treatment team outlined above works together to meet client needs as they progress through the withdrawal period. Clients may make this the start of their recovery journey and choose to continue to the next level of care – residential or outpatient treatment. Everyone’s journey is unique.
